Nationwide, we pay nearly $8.2 billion each year to confine young people. In 2014, we paid $4.7 million on juvenile confinement in Bernalillo County alone. The resulting costs are fewer high school graduates who will earn less, and possibly commit crimes. PUBLIC SQUARE explores ways to keep kids off the path to incarceration with students, advocates, education experts and juvenile justice experts.
Funding for PUBLIC SQUARE was provided in part by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Public Square is also funded by American Graduate: Lets Make It Happen. PUBLIC SQUARE is hosted by Megan Kamerick.
