-[Josh] No!
-[Ken] “Denim, Denim, Denim" - Awwww -Dad joke!
Don't let us get in on it, Adrian you've got them for days!
Adrian, just give us one!
Give us one!
- I'm going through the archives - Going through the archives!
- You have the real life archive - With like a pipe... Adrian Quesada Take 2 Would it make you comfortable to know that I'm nervous to interview you right now?
(Adrian laughs) - No.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- No?
I find your career and your work so inspiring - how you pivot, and the more I look under the hood, I'm like, “Holy- (Ken laughs) “He did that too?” - Hermanos Gutierrez have been- - Yeah Black Pumas, I saw you did stuff with Flor de Toloache, - They were on on our Season 2, - Oh, cool, yeah!
I didn't know you played with Prince too so I was like “Another thing” I was just like “Woah!” We did a short thing, yeah, we did a couple years with Prince.
(plucky Latin instrumental music) Trio Asesino came about a year or two ago.
I actually started recording some sessions in my studio with the Trio, and just kinda like, you know, just here and there, I'd come back to it.
I've always been in big bands.
Grupo Fantasma was 10, 11 members.
Even the Pumas live band to excecute what we wanted to do on stage was 7, 8 people.
But we actually will be a quartet tonight so, cheating a little bit.
- [Ken] No one's counting.
- Don't do that math.
These are my favorite kind of people to play with people that are super musical like this and they're about the music first.
They're not about any of the other BS.
When you walk into a room and it's like, everybody's already expressing themselves and it's a pretty heavy connection like that.
(plucky Latin funk instrumental music) I'm a big fan of instrumental music I always think before the singer and before the lyrics and all that even goes on the song I want the song to stand on its own and be super interesting where you can just remove the vocals and the songs almost as if not equally as interesting so, Yeah, we'll be playing all instrumental music tonight with “Trio Asesino” (plucky Latin funk instrumental music) (psychedelic jazzy instrumental music) (psychedelic jazzy instrumental music) (psychedelic jazzy instrumental music) (smooth organ music) (low jazzy music) (audience cheers) (low jazzy music) (psychedelic jazzy instrumental music) (music stops) (audience cheers) (upbeat drums) (psychedelic bassy instrumental music) (resonate organ music) (psychedelic bassy instrumental music) (resonate organ music) (upbeat drums) (resonate organ music) (bassy instrumental music) (psychedelic groove instrumental music) (psychedelic groove intensifies) (bassy jazz music) (audience applauses and cheers) Thank y'all, Albuquerque.
Hell yeah.
(plucky Latin funk instrumental music) I love Albuquerque.
I love New Mexico.
Eric from Pumas was, lived in Alamogordo for a long time but also my sister used to live here as a flamenco dancer so I've been here quite a bit.
There's a New Mexico connection for sure.
(plucky Latin funk instrumental music) I'm a big sports guy to and like the teams that win are not always like, the the super teams, they're the teams where they just you just try to get the best person and - it's really about chemistry.
- [Ken] Yeah That's not to say these aren't the best musicians ‘cause everybody's amazing but like, The most important thing to me is chemistry that there's a musical coversation, dialogue, and respect between everybody.
That's palpable.
You can feel when that's happening versus that's just I hired a bunch of the best hired guns that money can buy.
- Yeah, - That has never been really my M.O.
in any band I've ever been with.
It's really been more about a connection that happens on stage that people feel out there.

Eventually we met him.
He would jam with us then all of from like one day to the next, we were his backing band.
But we did a couple years there where like, Prince took us under his wing and took us around and played and it was as incredible as you would imagine.
I mean, I still have to, like, pinch myself when I think about, that that was a part of my life I was young, I was, we were in our 20s and he really believed in us, like you know, threw us into the big leagues.
And I think that did for me and my friends and Grupo Fantasma like it did so much for our confidence, musical development, to have somebody like him believe in you and I actually remember, like almost every interaction with him because it was so special, You know?
It was it was incredible, like, just to be a footnote in the history of this guy, you know?
(psychedelic music) I've always felt a little bit of a responsibility to, pass it forward and really, help younger artists as much as I can because there's a lot of people that help me.
(upbeat plucky Latin music) (upbeat plucky Latin music) (upbeat plucky Latin music) (intense synth pinao) (upbeat plucky Latin music) I learn so much from each collaboration with people I work with.
There's so many different things I want to try.
There's so many things- It's just like a journey that I'm just constantly- I feel like I'm still getting better.
I'm still learning.
So any opportunity to challenge myself, I think has been good for me Artistically, career wise and everything.
And it's It's just been what felt right, you know, so thrilled you're here, man.
- Awesome to be here.
- Yeah, dude.
Honored.
Thank you, thank you.
