Racism was the cause of it and we wanted to counteract that.

So the whole band's purpose was to come in there, bring different messages, raise the vibrations.

But I'm sort of happy that we didn't continue to have that kind of success because I think it freed me as a lyricist from this pressure.

Now it's just more so, be us.

- You know, homelessness or any other type of injustices.

The farther away they are from that, the less empathy they have left.

- Because there's always something where you have to be reminded of our humanity.

These little pockets of hate that say you're not worthy of human rights and respect and love and dignity.

Hopefully, the humanity within every one of us gets stronger, that will force that hate out.

♪ Existence ♪ ♪ A conscious baby for a black resistance ♪ ♪ I feel the rain enhances the revolution ♪ - The beauty of music is the fact that it's that primal, ancient art form that translates every culture.

Music is that, is that bridge.

It's that connecting thread that says the way I'm feeling through this expression.

This art form is gonna connect us.

And that's something bigger than all of us.

And that doesn't matter where you are or what you look like.

You just wanna feel like you're not alone in that struggle or that experience, and music does that.

What's deeply revelatory, for me at least, how relevant the lyrics are hitting in 2025, more than I ever expected.
