(clapper board clacking) (upbeat rock music) - [Ken] How'd you get involved with the bands?
- [Clara] Paul and I were Facebook friends because I was following one of his other bands.
He said, "I'm starting a folk ensemble of sorts."
- [Paul] Have you heard of Contra Dance?
(Clara giggling) - No.
- Neither had I.
And that's like what folk is to her.
- Yeah.
- It's kinda like square dancing - And so I was like, "Oh, maybe he really wants to go actually really folky."
No, that was not what was happening.
- [Scott] The previous bass player was like my mentor.
I was a student.
- [Ken] And you found out that you went to high school.
- Well, yeah.
I mean, I remembered Paul afterward and when I first joined the band, I just thought you looked kind of familiar and I was like, "Oh, it's Albuquerque".
- [Dave] Travis and I had like a winter choir concert two weeks later, he was like, "Hey, my band's going on tour in like six weeks, do you wanna come?"
- You always say, "Yes!"
- Yeah.
But we went to school together too.
♪ Hid it's face from the light of noon ♪ - Paul and I were in a big band together.
- Like a Jazz band - [Travis] Outta the blue, kind of like Clara.
I got a text saying, "Do you wanna join this band?"
I was like, "All right, cool."
I didn't know anything else about it.
And then everything kind of just gelled and it worked.
- [Ken] We got folk, jazz, all the, I mean it's starting to make sense now.
(band members laughing) I'm starting to get the origins right.
- [Paul] It was hard for us to work together at the beginning 'cause we all kind of spoke different languages.
It's a lot less painful than it used to be.
(all laughing) ♪ I'll find you there ♪ (smooth rock folk music) (audience cheering and applaudin - [Travis] You guys rule.

You know, just like yelling and (Paul shouting) and it's just, you know, it's cathartic.
- [Travis] It is cathartic.
Yeah I think Paul is always going after catharsis and I think one of my favorite things about sharing that with an audience is how polarizing it can be.
So some people will be super uncomfortable with it and some people will realize, "Oh, this is a, this is a thing that I needed to explore."
And so being able to share that with an audience is a fun part for me.
Finding our people is really great.
- Yes, yes.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- [Paul] The song is just an excuse to make noise and thrash around and yell.
- [Ken] Well, on that note, with that note, let's release one.
- [Paul] This is actually a really nice song after all that.
(smooth rock music) ♪ They're calling you from across the park ♪ ♪ The light that you held is getting dark ♪ - [Paul] I was not that ambitious when we started.
I was like, you can go like this, you can go like that.
It'll be great.
Years later, here we are!
(band laughing) ♪ Down the breeze ♪ - [Paul] I really enjoy like bad vibes.
(all laughing) Yeah.
I just (Paul growling) (Paul smashing) (Travis laughing) take it out, (Paul stomping) stomp on it.
I think when I was seven, my favorite movie was, 'IT.'
And.
- That tracks.
- Continues to be.
