You know, I had the impression that it was going to be a very funny show, but I don't think that I had the, the expectation that everyone else would feel that it was a very funny show.

So this kind of reception that we've had has been really thrilling.

And we were so, you know, shocked, but also like, yeah, the show is really good.

It's really funny.

So why wouldn't they be, you know, coming and, and spreading the word and telling people about it.

I have had enough of your cruelty.

You make fun of me.

You throw me down the stairs.

You said fire to my house on Christmas Eve.

I put it out!

My name is Holly Pierson and I'm the costume designer for Oh, Mary!

Oh, no.

Oh, no.

Oh, no.

Oh, you pig.

Oh, mother.

Why did I marry him?

"Oh, Mary!"

is about a woman who is in a cage.

And she's very frustrated and she wants to break out and revisit her past life.

We were imagining ourselves almost to be designers at a very serious regional theater in, like, the 1970s.

So that was kind of our lens that we were looking through with the costuming.

You know, it was kind of like, okay, what would this regional theater be able to accomplish with 1860s clothing?

It's heavy!

We knew that we needed to make the dress almost like a character unto itself.

We used heavy steels so that the dress could kind of move on its own.

And that really helped sell this kind of rebellious person, because at that time people wouldn't move like that.

So just the action itself made the dress move in a way that was completely uncharacteristic of like a proper woman from that time.

The thing about Mary is, a lot of different people can play her.

So we like to give those actors as much as we can while keeping the same look.

So, for instance, maybe someone doesn't want to wear a three inch heel because they're, you know, clattering around on the stage for an hour and a half, and they can't do that.

You know, they don't have that kind of stamina for a heel.

So we put them in a flat.

Or, you know, it's a lot to do with undergarments and how they feel in the costume.

I want to do everything I can to give them comfort in the costume because it is a lot.

They have like no brakes, essentially, and they have to like really go, go, go.

So we want to give them that so they feel really good going into the role.

I think that all of these different actors are very talented, unique people, and that's what's been so brilliant to see what their take on Mary is.

It's really unusual and interesting.

It's been such a joy to see everybody come in and make it their, their Mary.
