(soft guitar music) - The song "Like Water," the river went dry.
It was like 2022.
First time I had seen the Rio Grande go dry.
My mother-in-law started telling this story.
She would throw a stick in the river, and blah-blah-blah.
She said, "That was when we had water in the river."
Songwriting comes first sometimes.
I had to go grab my guitar.
The song "Like Water" just kind of came out.
It was a cool moment.

♪ And now I'm drinking all this poison ♪ ♪ I hope that it's consuming me ♪ I wanna write songs that tell stories and compel people to do things that are good for the world.

♪ And the world could just end tonight ♪ Me and Derek started the band.

- Quickly became friends with JD and was always impressed with his musicianship.
- JD messaged me out of the blue and I was like, "Oh, wow.

- I had just dropped out of college to pursue playing full-time.

So, but these guys kept me rocking through all of it, kept rehearsing through it all.
I remember my wife carrying all my guitars (JD laughs) to the room and I had my acoustic guitar and I remember trying to play quiet.
I'm like, "Oh, I don't want to disturb anybody.
You know, we're all healing."
And then the nurse coming from the next room and saying, "Can I open the door?
The patient thought they were listening to an angel or something."
And I'm like, "Wow, I don't..." - [Ken] Your healing was healing others.
Yeah, Guitar in the hospital room, man.
Like, everyone should have one.
What blows my mind is how songs I wrote right before that take on new meaning.
If you listen to the album now, the songs were written well before that, but there's so much of that meaning that could be attached to it.
