I was like teaching myself guitar and they like put me on a song and then they were like, "Why are you doing guitar?
Like you suck at guitar, like you can just sing."
And I was like, "Okay."
- [Ken] Fair enough.
- I secretly wanted to do that all along I just didn't wanna say anything.
Kind of just like put in my 10,000 hours without really even thinking about it.
Did it every single day for hours, and hours, and hours, every day after school.

♪ ♪ Had a convo yesterday with the sun ♪ ♪ She told me this thing ♪ ♪ "Don't worry oh you'll be fine dear you're still so young" ♪ - [Ken] You went to school for photography, yeah?
- Yeah I did for freshman year and then I ended up getting a degree in like graphic design but like right after school I bought a Volkswagen bus '73- - Yes, yes.
- And I was gonna fix it up and travel.
Right as I bought the van, everything like started happening and like started getting these opportunities and I just think the universe was like "You can't avoid what's meant for you, it just happens."

(audience cheering) (relaxing music) I got put on to like 60s and 70s like funk and soul when I was 15 and was just like in awe.
I think I was like taught by the artists that I was listening to.
I just like would try to do what I heard, that was like my lesson was just like trying to match their runs and stuff like that.
♪ I don't wanna go there ♪ ♪ I don't wanna her ♪ I released "Mirrorball" and then that started doing really well and I was playing so many shows around Philly at the time with my band.
There was like this momentum building and people were showing up like over and over again up.

♪ I feel so lucky 'cause there isn't like a part of it that I don't enjoy.
Writing, recording, performing, doing like the content and the branding, there's so many like little aspects of it but even the things that I'm bad at, I still enjoy.
