Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipfollowing weeks of train cancellations Governor Murphy today held a briefing with the heads of Amtrak and NJ Transit getting the two agencies in the same room and on the same page as they've been pointing fingers at one another all agreed recent service disruptions are unacceptable and they said they weren't offering excuses but continue to say they are dealing with Decades of underfunding in the transit system that have led to this current situation now today they said they're working together to figure out the root causes of the delays and improve service for customers and they're performing more inspections on Amtrak infrastructure to prevent these issues before they stop trains one thing the leaders did not commit to today is any extensive repair work to fix the current problems instead they're pointing to longer term capital projects that'll address these issues down the road someone asked me the other day should people rely on commuting via New Jersey Transit or Amtrak given some of the things that happened and my answer is yes they should rely on it and we should be delivering to you a Serv Serv that gives you the Comfort to do that we will fix these problems and more problems will occur as we renew this Capital but we will fix these problems and we will get to a place where the operations are much better than they've been in the last several weeks [Music]
